Ways to Make a Lockdown Birthday Special

The last year has been very difficult for all of us in many ways. There was a lot we took for granted in our normal everyday lives that have now changed and even now, after several lockdowns of varying degrees of restrictions, it still feels strange and unfamiliar. That is why it is important to restore that sense of normality wherever possible.

Sure, you may need to make some changes and compromises, but it’s still possible to enjoy things in a similar way to how you did before lockdowns and Covid-19. Birthdays are very important for many people and since the first national lockdown, things like that have become even more important – to help instil that sense of normality.

As there are restrictions on the number of people that can gather in one place at the same time, however, it can be difficult to get the same birthday party and celebration experience. Difficult yes, and not without compromise, but not impossible. Below we have put together some tips for organising a lockdown birthday special.

Order a Luxury Birthday Cake

No birthday celebration would be the same without a cake to devour on the day. There are plenty of options out there for birthday cake delivery in the London area, even in these challenging times. How can you make sure everyone enjoys a piece, even if you are not under the same roof? Perhaps you could consider having a number of smaller cakes made and delivered to various people who would attend the celebration.

It may have sounded strange reading the section above first and wondering what on earth we were talking about when we said about having smaller cakes sent to different attendees of your birthday celebration. However, hear us out, we are not crazy. As noted, there is no way to really have the birthday celebration any of us would prefer (unless of course, you are Rita Ora), but that doesn’t mean you can’t make alternative arrangements.

Zoom and video conferencing have become the done thing now, since the first national lockdown. Although it may feel a little odd, you could do what a lot of other people have been doing for their celebrations and parties and setting up a video conference. Depending on the size of the event you need to put on, you can even have separate, smaller rooms on some platforms like Zoom, along with what is known as breakout rooms, so that no-one feels overwhelmed.

Make a Gift List

As most people will not be able to attend your birthday celebration, you could make a gift list in a similar way that people do for weddings. You could even have an Amazon wish list and then people could choose the item they wanted to buy and have it delivered to your home.

It is obviously not as good as having everyone under one roof celebrating together, but in trying times, even a slightly altered celebration can make things a little brighter and more enjoyable.
